Cub Scouts
Pack 316 - LION Program – Kindergarten ages 5-6
The Lion Cub program is a terrific introduction to the
Cub Scout Program!
The
Lion Cub Scouts
is a pilot program created to introduce a new Cub Scout program for boys age 5
or in Kindergarten and their adult partners. The program is focused on parent
planning and delivery with support from the Cub Scout pack using literature
specifically designed for the younger age group (Lion Cub Scout Adult Guide and
Lion Cub Scout Adventure Guide). The Adult Guide contains a detailed plan for
each month’s curriculum and breaks down each section into Family/Den
Activities, At-Home Activities and Grand Adventures.
§ Lion Cubs are
kindergarten boys who join with a parent or caring adult partner.
§ Lion Cub dens are
part of a Cub Scout Pack.
§ Lion Cubs wear a Lion
Cub T-shirt or approved Class-A Uniform to their activities.
§ Lion Cubs move to the
next Cub Scout level (Tiger Cubs) at the end of kindergarten.
Do
Lions get Badges and Pins and Awards?
Lion Cubs receive instant recognition
for having done their best in Pride activity. Participation and attendance at
scheduled Pack events. Lion Cub is not a rank. Beads for use as instant
recognition are provided by the Pack for use with a belt fob. Pack 316 may add
more beads to the fob for special events and the like or even utilize a sticker
chart for all recognition. All recognition must be afforded based on
participation not performance. We are building self-esteem, confidence and a
sense of accomplishment. A full advancement program is in place.
What about Ceremonies?
Lion Cubs are included in the monthly
Pack advancement ceremonies for their recognition, a simple ceremony for the
receipt of their beads and an opportunity to share in the activities they’ve
enjoyed together is always encouraged. A graduation ceremony will be held at
the last Pack 316 meeting. Graduation is
to encourage and congratulate and welcome the Lions to the unit’s Tiger den as
they begin the Cub Scout Trail will be done in the May Pack meeting.
What rules govern the Lions Cubs?
1. Just as with traditional BSA
programs all the rules and regulations of the BSA, outlined in the Guide To Safe Scouting, apply to Lion
Cubs
2. Each Lion Cub MUST be accompanied
by an adult partner (age 18 or older) at all activities and meetings.
3. The Pride Guide, preferably an
experienced leader, is appointed by the Pack administration and approved by the
Chartered Partner to aid the group in its development. The Pride Guide is not a
chaperone for boys. Pack 316’s Pride Guide & Cub Master will help our
new Lion Cub families to get started in Cub Scouts.
Track Progress and Results in Scout Track
Lion Cubs are part of Pack 316’s Cub
Scout program and progress is tracked through our Cub Scout Pack software;
